Hi FRIEND,

So I know the subject line of this email suggests I am throwing a party at my house; I would love to plan a party and invite you over...

But the genocide in Darfur, Sudan is happening right now, and honestly, I just don't have the time to have a party. The genocide has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2.5 million people. Five hundred people continue to die each day; 15,000 die every month. Government-sponsored militias raze villages, systematically rape women and girls, abduct children, and destroy food and water supplies. But, I really think that for the people of Darfur, it is not too late. Yet.

So, instead of having a party, I've decided to do something. I'm supporting the Genocide Intervention Network. GI-Net aims to provide critically needed supplies to the peacekeepers, increase public awareness about genocide, and pressure international governments to act on their responsibility to protect victims of genocide.

If I were going to have a party, I would ask you for $10 for food and drinks, and probably ask you to bring your iPods or CDs, since you have better taste in music than I do. So instead, I'm asking that you use the $10 to donate to GI-Net, and by listening to your music while you do it, you can feel like you are at my party! Even better than spending your money on my party, you'll know you are providing critical support to the citizens of Darfur.
