The Genocide Intervention Network (GI-NET) is changing the way the United States and the international community responds to the world's worst crimes by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. GI-NET's aim is to build the first permanent anti-genocide constituency.
GI-NET is recruiting a network of anti-genocide activists who educate their communities, pressure their elected officials, and fundraise directly for civilian protection. Currently the organization's work is focused on ending the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
GI-NET seeks a highly organized and motivated individual with excellent writing and editing skills to assist in all aspects of raising an annual budget of $2.7 million, including research, writing and preparing grant proposals for submission to public and private funders; writing and editing letters of inquiry; prospect research; organizing special events; and assisting with the management and coordination of other Development Department functions. The Development Associate/Grantwriter reports directly to GI-NET's Development Director. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to ending genocide, as well as extensive grant writing experience.
Summary of Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 3 years or more grant and/or proposal writing experience, preferably in a workforce development, international or human service setting
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Intermediate knowledge of Salesforce, Raiser's Edge or other CRM software
- Familiarity with Quickbooks helpful
- Strong attention to detail and interpersonal and organizational skills required
- Experience doing online research helpful
Job Description:
The responsibilities of the Development Associate/Grantwriter include:
- Grant Writing: Research, write and prepare grant proposals for submission to foundations and individual donors; synthesize large amounts of information on various organizational departments and programs into clear and concise proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry; interfaces with department and program staff across the organization in preparing grant/proposal materials; solicits specific data and anecdotal information that captures the successes of programs and incorporates these in organizational documents; develops budget data for proposals.
- Grant Reporting: Fulfills foundation-specific grant reporting requirements (prepares interim and final reports, etc); gathers data on program progress and stays apprised of new developments in order to prepare timely and accurate reports to funders.
- Donor Research: Researches and compiles information about new foundations and major individual donors.
- Foundation/Donor Communications: Tracks all foundation fundraising activities and correspondence using CRM software to ensure long-term institutional memory; prepares briefings for funders, writes thank you letters; assists in the drafting of correspondence to donors and ensures that they are sent on a regular and timely basis; sends special updates and newsletters to donors as appropriate.
- Establishing and maintaining development-related website pages: Drafting language for, and reviewing content of the donate form pages for various department web pages; and maintains online donation processing systems.
- Grassroots Fundraising: Conduct online and direct mail fundraising appeals; develops profiles for various charity sites/publications, and company giving programs; maintains correspondence with grassroots fundraisers; and develops and implements a grassroots recognition system.
- Management of Administrative functions of Development Department: Creating thank you letters for general and designated donations; managing and coordinating bulk mailings; maintaining donor/donation databases; preparing checks for deposit; and generating thank you receipts for all donations
