Interns available 30+ hours per week preferred

The Protection Intern will assist the Protection Director with research on the projects GI-Net will engage in to directly protect civilians facing genocide or mass atrocity. This includes research on past cases of such protection projects, on current opportunities to deploy such projects, and on identifying partner organizations to facilitate in implementation or providing information. The intern will also assist in the development and management of our Advisory Group on Protection.

Major Responsibilities

• Conduct research on promising means and tactics to alleviate violence in specific ongoing conflicts such as Burma and Chad
• Correspondence with experts in the field on conflicts and potential solutions
• Distribution of materials/programs and communication with GI-Net members and with other organizations
• Updates on ongoing, emerging, and concluding conflicts
• Write and edit proposals and recommendations for projects GI-Net can fund

Helpful Experience

• An excellent verbal and written command of English
• Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications)
• Interest and experience in human rights, particularly related to conflicts of a genocidal intent
• Field experience in a low-income county in development, humanitarian aid is desirable
• Relevant coursework is desirable, especially experience in memo writing
• Well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable
