Advocacy/Government Relations Intern
The Advocacy/Government Relations Intern will assist in the production of advocacy tools and materials, as well as assist in the development of programs and campaigns with the goal of providing concerned individuals and communities with the opportunity to influence U.S. and international response to the ongoing genocide in Darfur.
Major Responsibilities:
- Communicating with GI-Net members and concerned individuals on advocacy matters
- Communicating with members of the NGO community on Darfur and other anti-genocide initiatives
- Correspondence with congressional offices
- Developing materials for specific advocacy campaigns
- Helping to plan and organize advocacy initiatives and programs
- Research related to advocacy programs and policy initiatives
- Updating the advocacy section of the website (www.GenocideIntervention.net/advocate/ [0])
- Updating the Darfur Scores website (www.DarfurScores.org [1])
- Updating the anti-genocide hotline (1-800-GENOCIDE) and website (www.1800genocide.com [2])
Helpful Experience:
- An excellent verbal and written command of English
- Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are essential
- Interest and experience in human rights advocacy is desirable, particularly related to genocide and Darfur
- Relevant coursework is highly desirable
- Well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable
Advocacy/Economic Advocacy Intern
The Economic Advocacy Intern will assist in the research and development of divestment related advocacy and policy.
Major Responsibilities:
- Developing materials for specific divestment campaigns
- Updating the State of Divestment Report (www.sudandivestment.org/position.asp [3]) and Sudan Divestment map (www.sudandivestment.org [4])
- Recruiting possible constituent leaders and media contacts in key districts/states
- Communicating with grassroots campaigners and concerned individuals on divestment matters
- Distribution of materials/programs to other organizations
Helpful Experience:
- An excellent verbal and written command of English
- Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are essential
- Interest and experience in human rights advocacy desirable, particularly related to genocide and Darfur
- Well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable
