Olympic Dream for Darfur

Dream for Darfur: Olympic Torch Relay In less than a year, China will host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, one of the world's most powerful symbols of peace. Meanwhile, it is failing to help end genocide in Darfur, one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. STAND is co-sponsoring an Olympic Torch Relay which will tour the world before delivering a simple message to China: Bring the Olympic dream to Darfur.

The Olympic Torch Relay will travel from Darfur to Beijing starting in fall, 2007. The goal of the relay is to remind China of its responsibility to help bring peace to Darfur, Dream for Darfur launched its own Olympic Torch Relay in August. The torch began its journey in Chad, just across the border from Darfur. The torch will travel around the world, visiting sites of previous genocide such as Rwanda, Armenia, Bosnia, Germanry and Cambodia.

Between September and December, STAND, Dream for Darfur and the Save Darfur Coalition will bring the torch to 25 cities around the U.S. The torch will end its tour when it arrives at China's doorstep in December.

Help carry the torch, and bring hope to Darfur! Find a Dream for Darfur event near you. If you are a student and want to get involved in the torch relay, contact GI-Net's student division, STAND.
